Laboratory
facilities
In conformity with the Management policy of Complete
Education, by complimenting class room interaction with practical
knowledge, the department has equipped itself with modem laboratories.
The facilities created are in excess of the academic requirements
in some cases to encourage faculty members to carry out R&D
activity.
The succeeding paragraphs contain a brief description
of the laboratories established and those which are being planned
for future needs.
Existing laboratories: Engineering workshop with
facilities - Fitting, Carpentry, Black smithy, Tinsmithy, Foundry,
Plumbing, Welding cater to the needs of Mechanical and Electrical
Engineering students. The Fuels and Lubricants Lab has all the
facilities like Viscometers, Calorimeters, and the apparatus
for finding the flash and fire points of the fuels. The Fluid
Mechanics and Hydraulic machinery lab introduces the students
of Mechanical and Electrical engineering stream to the fundamentals
of the performance parameters related to vanes, hydraulic turbines
and pumps.
A practical understanding of the behavior of solids
under various conditions of static and dynamic loading is conveyed
with the use of various material testing systems installed in
the Mechanics of solids lab
In the Thermal Engineering Lab, the performance
of internal combustion engines, air compressors and refrigerating
& air conditioning systems is thoroughly studied by the
mechanical engineering students. This lab is equipped with a
variety of single/multi cylinder SI/CI engines coupled to different
types of dynamometers and tutors for air conditioners &
refrigerators.
The Metallurgy lab is equipped with binocular and
trinocular microscopes along with specimen preparation equipment
to study the microstructure of ferrous & non ferrous metals
before and after heat treatment.
The Production Technology lab comprising of thermoplastic
moulding, Spot welding, Punching, Piercing & Deep drawing
and Pattern making facilities compliments the class room instructions
through hands-on working.
Apart from the above facilities the labs added
in the past academic year include Machine tools, Metrology,
Heat transfer, CAD/CAM.
